Natural Dyes, Eco Printing, Indigo & Shibori 3 day course Aug 20th/21st/22nd
If you want to just discover Natural Dyes or Indigo & Shibori you can book them as separate days if you wish. Eco Printing needs to be booked as a two day course to allow enough time to look at everything; all the days are complementary to each other. The course can be structured in several ways so if you would like to book either topic please get in touch and tell me what you would like to learn about.
Discover the gorgeous colours from easy to grow plants & find out how to use them on different natural fibres and fabrics. On day one we will learn about preparation of fibres, mordanting, modifying, solar dyeing and will include ancient dyes such as Madder, Weld & Indigo. I will provide mordanted fabric, wool yarn and natural fleece from different breeds of sheep and you are welcome to bring small quantities of your own special yarn or fabric as well if you wish, please let me know when you book so that I can advise you on how to prepare it.
Eco printing is perhaps best described as natural printing, the colours and outlines obtained are from the plants themselves; no inks or paints are used. On the second day you will discover how to eco print fabrics and paper with leaves and flowers – eco printing allows you to print directly with plants. If you do all three days of this course there will be time to explore natural dyes and experiment with indigo plus Shibori stitching and clamping techniques to create beautiful fabrics and fibres. Use the techniques you’ve learned in your own projects or just come and enjoy the workshop exploring something new. You will gain lots of knowledge and a good understanding of the topics.
On the third day we will learn how to make an indigo vat and create Shibori designs on fabric. Everything is provided, however you are welcome to bring a small item of your own such as a top to upcycle in the vat if you wish. It will need to be 100% natural fibres. Please let me know if you want to do so.
